Body Scan Awareness Practice
The above practice is foundational to our work. This practice builds the mind body connection which is needed to create results in our session work. The more you practice, the faster we will get results.
Notice when you want to rush through, or think about how your body feels rather than actually slowing down into feeling sensations. Any resistance is what you are here to work with. If you struggle to sense your body internally, I suggest consistently practicing feeling the edges of your body: where your feet feel the ground, where your sit bones feel the seat, the sensation of water hitting your skin in the shower. This will slowly build your capacity to sense your internal sensations. This can be done multiple times throughout the day at work, in the shower, on your commute, on a work break, at home.
I have made the above practice downloadable so you can save it to your devices.
Recommended Protocol:
• 1-2x 5 minute round at least 1x a day
• 3-4x "quick check in rounds" / day for 2 weeks
If you're crunched for time because life it busy with important things you can self guide a “quick checkin” body scan with your eyes open, in 1-3 minutes. Just utilize you breath, and breath into each part of you body, check in with each body segment and take a moment to really feel what sensations are there.
If you notice anxiety or activation in this practice, I invite you to use a regulation practice. Any anxiety / freeze / activation / numbness you notice in this practice will be key to what we will explore in our sessions together.
Here is a Google Doc of your body scan tracking / journal practice to do outside of session. There is a list of regulation practices to experiment with on the last page. Don’t feel pressured to do them all.
